All Day Leather Tote

Long before it was fashion, it was necessity. Haitian women have woven palm fronds into baskets for generations, a technique passed down through hands, not books. Sitting in the shade of a courtyard or beneath an open sky, fingers moving with the confidence of something deeply remembered, they turned a single material into something both useful and quietly beautiful.

That practice, patient, precise, unhurried found its way into the Deux Mains atelier in Port-au-Prince. Not as imitation, but as inspiration. What if the same logic that gives a woven basket its structure and soul could be translated into leather? What could that technique say about Haiti?  Its craft, its beauty, its ingenuity, on a global stage?

The interlaced leather strips are worked the same way palm fronds once were.  Over, under, pull tight, hold the tension, by artisans at Deux Mains who carry that ancestral knowledge forward in a new medium. The result is a tote of striking texture and quiet depth: structured enough to carry everything a full day demands, considered enough to be the most beautiful thing in the room.
