Fair Trade Month: Artisan Interviews
October is Fair Trade Month, a time to celebrate businesses that support better working conditions, sustainability, and helping communities around the world. At Deux Mains, we’re excited to shine a light on the amazing artisans who help make our work possible. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing special interviews with the talented people who are at the heart of our projects.
Our first feature is an interview with one of the skilled artisans who handcrafts shoes in our factory for the Shoe Project, a cause close to our hearts.
The Shoe Project and Why It Matters
In Haiti, many schoolchildren walk long distances to school without proper shoes, often across rough, rocky roads. Education is a powerful tool to fight poverty, and simply providing shoes can make a huge difference in helping kids stay in school.
That’s why we started the Shoe Project. We create strong, high-quality shoes for Haitian schoolchildren, so they have the support they need for their long journeys. Behind each pair of shoes is a dedicated team of artisans who put care and passion into every stitch.
Meet Our School Shoe Supervisor
We’re proud to introduce you to Daffnee, one of our leaders in the footwear department. As both a manager and a creator, Daffnee makes sure each pair of shoes is comfortable and meets our high standards.
In the interview, you’ll get a sneak peek into how Daffnee approaches her work, ensuring each shoe is built to handle the long walks the children face. You’ll also hear about her favorite handbag to make and how she feels about being part of a project that makes a real difference.
What to Expect
Each week, we’ll introduce you to a different artisan, sharing their story and showing the amazing work they do. These interviews will help you connect with the people behind our products and understand how fair trade positively affects individuals and communities.
Why Fair Trade?
Supporting fair trade means ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and eco-friendly production. It creates opportunities for artisans like Daffnee to succeed while ensuring the products—whether shoes or bags—are made ethically and sustainably.
When you choose fair trade, you’re not just buying a pair of shoes or a purse; you’re investing in people and their futures. You’re helping Haitian children walk to school safely and supporting artisans who take pride in their craft.
Stay Tuned!
We can’t wait to share these artisan interviews with you throughout Fair Trade Month. Join us each week to meet more of the incredible people on our team and learn how their work is changing lives—one stitch, one product, one step at a time.
