A Fashion Revolution

We are living in a unique time in history. We are all starting to ask more questions about the systems at work around us. This includes where our clothing and accessories come from, how they are made, and how it affects the makers. As often happens when we begin to question systems, a movement has been born. This movement is the fashion revolution.

This revolution is demanding change in the fashion industry. Our goal is to see this industry transformed all the way from the supply chain to the products sold to consumers. We are asking for brands to step up and provide dignified working conditions and livable wages. We are asking for transparency and accountability throughout the supply chain, and many other changes to make this industry more ethical. This all sounds great but how can we actually be a part of this revolution?

Every great revolution is made up of many people doing their part and this one is no different. We can all be a part of it. Here are a few easy ways for you to participate.

Learn: We all have that favorite pair of jeans in our closet, or maybe it is a dress that fits just right. Have you ever asked where it was made? Who made it? What their working conditions are like or how much they were paid? This is a great place to start. Take the brands you already wear and start asking questions. It can be as simple as a social media post tagging the brand and asking who made my dress?

Engage: Once you have started to look into the brands you already wear, you might find that some are less than transparent about their supply chain or production process. You can be a part of this change by engaging with these brands. Take to social media or email them directly. Ask for more transparency, better conditions, and more accountability. Show them that consumers do care about these things.

Educate: Now that you have learned about the brands you wear and began asking them to step up and be a part of the change, it’s time to spread the word. We have seen before that change happens when we all come together. Tell your friends about the fashion revolution that is happening. Encourage them to learn and engage. Together we can bring real lasting change.

Shop: Finally, our personal favorite: shopping. There are so many beautiful fashion pieces out there made by brands that are committed to transparency, dignity, and craftsmanship. As you begin to add new pieces to your wardrobe seek out these brands. Each purchase you make supports this movement and shows other companies that brand ethics do matter to us.

Welcome to the revolution; we are so happy you’re here
